Sepia Saturday 343, 2016 September. Work and Play: Work, Play, Eat

Is it work, or  play, or eating?  A perfect caption for this long time favorite photo of my sis.  She is out helping grandpa pick strawberries -- at least that's the story.  My grandparents had a small acreage outside of Puyallup, Washington, on which they grew much of what they ate.  Our mother took us to spend a week every summer with our grandparents.  We were treated of homemade bread, fresh applesauce, and freshly picked strawberries.  I am sure we had lots of fresh vegetables, but those paled by fresh bread, applesauce and strawberries.

This charming photo brings back all of those memories of days spent with my Sigford grandparents.  Reading Grandmother's favorite books, turning cartwheels with Grandpa (he was nearly seventy years old and still turning cartwheels and climbing trees), and mornings in the strawberry patch.

Now  cartwheel on over to Sepia Saturday
to enjoy days of work and play.

  1. Lovely memories. Your Grandpa and his cartwheels at 70 - amazing! Your sis is a cutie.

  2. Gardens are great for kids - fruit or vegetables. When our kids were little my husband would plant small vegetable gardens and the kids would help choose and pick the veggies for dinner. It was a great way to get them to eat them . . . well, all except for our son. He would still only eat corn.

  4. My best friend and her husband moved from Eatonville, WA to Puyallup, WA recently. I keep trying to spell it and pronounce it, only to have another friend with Tacoma relatives know it immediately. And I'm in North Carolina. Love the pic of the strawberry picker!

  5. A great photo of your sister enjoying herself 'gardening'. No doubt your grandfather loved the family coming to visit and keeping them young.
