Christmas Memories: 2020/12/02 THE WISH BOOK IS HERE!

THE WISH BOOK IS HERE!!!

In our household, the arrival of the Sears Christmas Catalog, known as the Wish Book, was big event. When our children were little tykes, we had to go to the Sears Store to pick up the catalog. Later it arrived by mail. The Wish Book was definitely the beginning of the holiday season, as Lois, Sharon and Russ scanned the pages for their heart’s desires. My mother didn’t get the Sears Wish Book, so my younger brothers, who were just a few years older than my children, would also come over to carefully go over each page for the "newest and the bestest."  By Christmas Eve, the Wish Book would be tattered and special pages marked, as well as a few smears left from Christmas baking and candy making.

From 1954 through 1963 we farmed and ranched, so the Sears Christmas Wish Book was where and how we shopped for Christmas. In 1964, the five of us were ensconced in Pullman, Washington, while Doc got his DVM. We now got the catalog, by mail, and it was still thoroughly perused each Christmas. The Christmas lists got longer as the kids could write better. We continued to get the Sears Christmas Wish Book until sometime in the early 1990s. By that time, our children were adults and now the grandchildren were beginning search the book for their Christmas wish list.

I rather miss that old Wish book.
