What I Don't Have

If you are watching my progress on the project for Letters from Uncle Ralph, you might have noticed that by the 8th of July I was about two weeks behind schedule. I went into high gear transcribing, which wasn't too bad. After transcribing, I scan every page of every letter, envelope and clipping, and label appropriately in my computer. As my husband has noticed, my dog has noticed, and anyone who calls on the phone has noticed, I have been grumpy, grouchy, irritable -- especially after scanning.

The other day after a trip to the lab for some tests, I came home elated. The lab had this dandy scanner that you feed the sheets through in flash (or so it seemed to me). I want one, I need one. I came home and checked out the prices. Ouch! Even though I lust after this scanner, it is one of those things I Don't Have --- nor do I expect to get one in the foreseeable future. Be gone from my mind, ye beauteous temptress.

  1. Guess what, I haven't noticed. You seem fine to me. Let's blame it on the weather in Massachusetts! That scanner does sound neat, now I want one.

  2. I am NOT looking, I am NOT, I am NOT, I am NOT. OKKKKK, urge to look has passed. But, if you start talking about a laser printer, I am STILL looking and drooling and whining, have been for years, may continue for years to come, or until I win the lottery!

  3. I don't have a scanner at all....so I rely on my digital camera, and a handy print shop down the road when I need a batch of scanning done....
but maybe one of these days!!!

  4. Dorene,
I have been practising with my digital camera -- taking photos of old books seems cause less stress on the books, but I still have some problems with getting a perfect 90 degree shot-- even tho I (well, hubby) built a handy-dandy cradle for the books that allows for changing degrees. Me thinks its operator error.

  5. You know how those businesses seem to buy new equipment when the equipment they have is still perfectly fine, just a year or two old? Perhaps they'll give you (or sell to you inexpensively) the scanner of your dreams.... Maybe....

  6. Well now you should be crabbier than ever, since you cannot get one of those scanners. I think I read some post .on the scanner. Justkidding. You don't seem crabby. I am sure you know how to get yourself up again, resort to chocolate or some other way.

Yes, good idea to check Craigs lists or the university surplus. Our city also has surplus sales.

Can you put your deadline that you have made for yourself a little further back.

  7. Joan, do you have Paint Shop Pro? There's a tool in there for squaring up an image taken at an angle. I think it's called Perspective Correction or something like that.
